My Power is Back On!! Time for a Good Cookie..

Finally!  Power has been restored!  It's been a long, hot few days around the Culinary Cellar without any electricity, and no way for me to write my blogs.  The power outage affected almost 900,000 people in the Chicago area- one of the worst in history. This was a good lesson for me to try and get ahead by at least a week on the blogs.  Thank goodness I had my Bake-Off blog done and ready to post yesterday.  I want to thank my sweet daughter, Kristina, for stepping in and writing something for Tuesday.

So now that electricity is back, it's time to turn on the cold oven and get baking!  I found this book a couple weeks ago at a book sale.  I can never resist cookie cookbooks.  Author Maria  Bruscino Sanchez is the owner and baker of "Sweet Maria's" in Waterbury, Connecticut.  She has a website, http://www.sweet-marias.com/main.htm  where you can read about all her delectable cookies, cakes, and many other baked goods, and even order online.

The cookbook has recipes for International favorites like madeleines, shortbread, tuiles, and biscotti.  All-American cookies include chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, and snickerdoodles.  Some of the bakery favorites are black and white cookies, butter, sugar, macaroons, and cut-outs.  You will also find simple candies, holiday favorites, and chapter on low-fat, low-sugar, and gluten-free cookies.  Go soften some butter, roll up your sleeves, and fill your cookie jar!

Thank you Maria, for giving me a reason to fire up the oven!  It's good to be back in the kitchen.

  1. You will be pleased to know that Maria's heart is as sweet as her cookies. She does multiple fund-raisers in and around my town!
